TENET LESSON 8

Evangelism and Missions

It is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ and of every church of the Lord Jesus Christ to endeavor to make disciples of all nations. The Lord Jesus Christ has commanded the preaching of the gospel to all nations. It is the duty of every child of God to seek constantly to win the lost to Christ by verbal witness undergirded by a Christian lifestyle, and by other methods in harmony with the Gospel of Christ.

Matthew 9:37-38; 10:5-15; Luke 10:1-18; 24:46-53; John 14:11-12; 15:7-8,16; Acts 1:8; 2; 8:26-40; Romans 10:13-15; Ephesians 3:1-11; 1 Thessalonians 1:8; 2 Timothy 4:5; Hebrews 2:1-3; 1 Peter 2:4-10

The dirty little secret of Christianity today is that while we affirm the need to win lost souls to Christ. According to one survey 95% of Christians have never led another person to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. The vast majority of church programs and budgets are all centered around serving the needs and desires of the current church membership.

Ezekiel 3:17-18 is a strongly worded warning for the failure to tell people of the coming danger. People who haven’t heard the gospel are in just as much danger if not more than those who are unaware of an enemy approaching.

Churches should begin to place more of an emphasis on reaching the lost. One area of emphasis should be prayer, Matthew 9:36-38. Listen to the prayer requests in your church. We should regularly hear prayers for the lost. We should pray for the lost and we should be praying for the Lord to send workers into the harvest.

As we begin to pray for God to send workers in the harvest, we should also be preparing to go ourselves. After praying in Matthew 9 Jesus sent them out in Matthew 10. God’s plan is not to send the majority to another country but rather for us to serve and reach the lost that are around us every day where we are at. If we want to make a difference, it begins where we are at.

Are you seeing souls saved at your church? Whose life are you influencing for Christ? When was the last time you led someone to Christ or even invited someone to Church?
